Is a Pitbull Poodle Mix an ideal addition to my house?

July 3, 2021by Jennifer Schwab

The Pitbull Poodle Mix is also known as the Boodle, a medium-sized, easily trained, loyal, and highly family-oriented dog. Coming from the Pitbull and a Poodle, it is very unlikely that each parent’s traits will appear physically.

A poodle is known for being very smart and a humorous breed. These dogs adapt very quickly and are thought of as the ultimate companion dogs for adults and children. While on the others hand, a pitbull is not a specific breed. When you mention the Pitbull dog, there is a variety, and it may be a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, America Staffordshire Terrier, American Bully, and the American Pitbull Terrier.

Pitbulls are known for their willingness to learn and their intelligence that makes them a highly obedient type. Having the Pitbull crossed with Poodles genetically enhances the Dogs companionship and adaptability, and their instinct for obedience makes it very easy to train and practice. Having both of these breeds combined may not show each physical trait, but the hybrid pups have eth best genes each of them can offer.

What is the temperament of a mixed Poodle Dog?

These dogs are highly nonaggressive. Being aggressive to humans beings always comes rooted in the way you treat these dogs at home. For example, if you treat your dog in a nurturing and loving way at home. In addition to the great environment they live in, they are naturally very compassionate and also human-friendly pets.

The small pitbull mixes are very smart and attentive and are very good at picking up the body language you show them. This leads them to a better understanding of the two parties. They are also highly sensitive to communication or expression that makes them super easy to train.

These dogs are very easy to groom as with both parent dogs having their soft fur, the hybrid offspring is also very sure to give you a highly easier time when grooming.

How is a Pitbull Poodle mix dog good for being a pet?

The poodle pitbull mix is an excellent family companion as it has a superb combination of temperament from both of these breeds. They are very friendly, lively, athletic, and have a great desire to please their owners. However, although they are mostly good with their companions, the Pitbull has its feistiness. It shows once they feel shy around any new individual, that may result in aggressiveness.

This trait may also be a shock as owners are very used to the family-friendly characteristics these dogs show. But the right amount of training will certainly do great wonders once your pup is aware of how it must act around strangers.

Your hybrid dog must not be left alone as it may make them feel agitated and scared that often results in gnawing on anything they get their paws on. If this goes on for a longer time, more damage is a high possibility.

Is it easy to groom the mixed Poodle Dog?

Grooming a poodle pitbull mix is an easy task, but it is also dependant on which si parent breed they take after. If they take the Pitbull one, brushing is not important, but it is better to do it at least around 2 to 3 times every week to avoid dirt collection or knots. On the other hand, if the hybrid takes after a poodle breed, shedding is inevitable, and you have to keep scheduling the brushing sessions.

Baths are required, but you must not overdo them. Frequent bathing does not mean that they are 100% clean, but instead, it makes your pup open to illnesses. This is because you wash away the natural oils and protection that is over the hairs. Do not forget to clip their nails and also clean their ears. If your pup takes after the pitbull poodle mix, make sure you are checking the ears as a common issue is an ear infection. This is what happens when there is no shed gene in the dog that traps and collects dirt.

Brush the teeth of the pitbull poodle mix regularly, even if the chewable treats are given. In addition, you should take them to the vet regularly to ensure that your health habits are very clean and are okay for your pitbull poodle mix.

Will my dog have any health issues?

The pitbull poodle mix will mostly inherit the healthy genes, but there is always a possibility that it will inherit the vulnerability to illnesses.

A few conditions to look for are:

  1. Ear infections: Pitbulls do not shed that much, which leads to the collection of dirt in the ears; that is why you must regularly check and clean their ears.
  • Heart diseases: Dogs are prone to having heart diseases if the food intake is not well thought of or planned. If you give your dog some table food, the chances are that it will have illnesses brought about due to human food. Opt to stick to dog food that is very high in nutrients.
  • Bloating: This is a very common thing among many different breeds. Bloating leads to having gastric dilatation-volvulus if not addressed right away and might lead to death.
  • Hip dysplasia: Poodles are prone to joint dysplasia, very commonly in the pelvic and hip areas. This happens when joint pops out of the socket bring immense pain to the hybrid.

What should I feed my Pitbull Poodle Mix?

The best pitbull mixes have good duet needs. Make sure you make an appointment to prioritize the type of food you allow your dog to have, which will greatly affect the longevity of life and health. Also, please note the size and the needs of every breed it came from to plan the specific diet for the hybrid. Your pitbull poodle is a medium-sized dog; hence portions of the dog food must be measured, so your dog isn’t obese.

You must know these few main things before getting a small pit bull mix as a pet.
